Foreword

Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of the Standard are mandatory, while the others are recommended.

The standard corresponds to FMVSS 571.302 Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and Regulations. Its consistency with FMVSS 571.302 Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials is non-equivalent.

The standard replaces GB 8410-1994 Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials.

Compared to GB 8410-1994, major changes of the standard are as follows:

— Chapter 1 Automotive Classification Method is modified according to requirements of GB 3730.1-2001;

— Compiling means of Terminology Part in Chapter 2 is modified and added with English content according to requirements of GB/T 1.1-2000;

— Definition of composite material is modified, see Item 2.2;

— Definition of interior material is improved; its definition scope is broadened, see Item 2.5;

— Technical requirements of Chapter 3 are modified: Item 3.1 and Item 3.3 in the original standard technical requirements are cancelled and relevant contents are included in Item 4.6;

— Requirements of heat source for test are modified: Please refer to Item 4.2.4;

— Test requirements are modified in case that leveling test sample is unavailable due to winding spare parts, see Item 4.3.2;

— Requirements to prepare test sample are supplemented in case that spare parts shape and dimension are inconsistent with sampling requirements, see Item 4.3.2; Sampling requirements are added into in case of uneven spare parts thickness, see Item 4.3.2;

— Sampling example and graphic representation are added into, see Item 4.3.2;

— Hackling direction before test for surface fuzzing sample of the test procedure is modified, see Item 4.4.1;

— Test method is added into in case of sample slow-burning, see Item 4.4.9;

— Content of results indication is added into, see Item 4.6;

The standard was proposed by National Development and Reform Commission.

The standard is under jurisdiction of National Automotive Standardization Technical Committee.

The standard was drafted by the Technical Center of China Faw Group Corporation;

Main drafters of the standard: Wang Qing Guo, Li Jing Hua.

All previous versions of the standard substituted by this standard:

— GB 8410-1987; GB 8410-1994.

Flammability of automotive interior materials

1. SCOPE

This standard specifies the technical requirements and test methods for the horizontal flammability of automotive interior materials.

This standard applies to the assessment of the horizontal flammability of automotive interior materials.

As the real situation of automotive interior parts (positions, layout, use conditions and fire source of parts) may differ significantly from the test conditions described in this standard, this standard does not apply to the assessment of all types of flammability of automotive interior materials.

2. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

2.1 Burning rate

The ratio of the burnt distance measured in accordance with this standard to the time used for burning such a distance, in mm/min.

2.2 Composite material

Materials comprising layers made of similar or different materials, which are fused, adhered or welded tightly together.

2.3 Exclusive material

Integrated homogeneous material made of identical material.

Different materials connected intermittently (by sewing, high-frequency welding or riveting) shall not be regarded as composite material, and each of the materials is exclusive material.

2.4 Exposed side

The side of parts installed in the passenger compartment facing the occupants.

2.5 Interior materials

Any exclusive materials or composite materials used for automotive interior parts, such as cushions, seat back, seat covers, safety belts, headrests, armrests, movable folding ceiling, all decorative lining boards (including indoor guard board, side guard board, back guard board and ceiling lining), instrument panel, glove cabinet, indoor shelf or rear window board, curtain, floor cover, sun visor, wheel housing covering, engine hood covering, and any other indoor organic materials (including fillers and buffer devices for absorbing impact energy in case of collision).

3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

The flammability of interior materials must meet following technical requirement: The burning rate shall not be more than 100 mm/min.
